On Thursday 27th of April, 2017, under the supervision of Dr. Michael, President of the American University in Duhok, the chess tournament was started.
At the beginning, a minute of silence was held to honour the spirit of the student Bashar Asaad Ali, a student at the Faculty of Physical Education / University of Zakho, which was passed away after a painful incident on 26/4/2017.
It's worth mentioning that, the tournament began with the participation of students from several universities in the governorate of Duhok. The tournament was characterised by the good and beautiful organisation, and the team of Duhok University was able to lead the first place in the championship after collecting 17.5 points, while the team of the University of Zakho takes the second place after collecting 15.5 points, and other teams:

4-Polytechnic University 11 points
5-Ishik University 10.5 points
6-Jihan University 7 points
7-American University -Duhok 6 points
